Kohli has decided to step down from T20 captaincy after the T20 WC. This topic of captaincy split had done its round for more than a week after the suspended Manchester test. What could have triggered Kohli to leave captaincy?
Loss of form - Yes he has lost his Midas touch which he had 2 years ago comparing that he is not at his best. Still, he has been scoring runs with crucial 50s at Lords and Leeds. Not scoring a 100 for the past 1.5 years for his stature would be a very huge disappointment among the fans and himself as well. But what I see with Kohli as a captain is that the vibe he brings to the team.

Who Next?
Rohit Sharma is most likely to be the captain after the WC which many would have expected. India should be looking at future captains as well with Rohit (34) there must be a youngster to be groomed into captaincy. This could be either KL Rahul (28) or Rishab Pant(23). Pant has done reasonably well with the limited stint he got with DC.
Still relatively not experienced he can be made the VC. KL Rahul on the other hand has found his lost mojo back with his performances in England. He has been consistently performing in the IPL for the past 3 seasons but when it comes to captaincy has not been at his best at times. So he can be made Rohit's deputy and gain experience.
If BCCI wants a separate captain for red ball and white ball then probably they need to make their decision quickly with the ODI WC set to be held in 2023. With hardly 2 years left this would be the right time if BCCI thinks of split captaincy for limited and test cricket.
