Jason Gillespie: The Man behind fine-tuning fast bowlers.

Jason Gillespie has made a massive impact in fine-tuning many playing during his brief stint at County. The two main players who are shining are Ishant Sharma and the recent star Ollie Robinson. First, let us take a look at Ishant Sharma.

He along with Yo Mahesh were the front runners to get the extra pacers to spot in the Indian team during the 2008 Ind-Aus test series. But Ishant found himself lucky and took the flight to Australia and from there on there was no looking back. Although Sharma has good numbers he had a very lean patch for the first 8 years till 2016. He managed to take 212 wickets at an average of 36.47 (73 matches). These were not good numbers of his ability.

So he decided to have a go at the county Championship during the 2017 calendar under the guidance of Jason Gillespie. The following season he took 50 plus wickets and played a crucial contribution with the bat. The major learnings for him were bowling longer spells and reverse swing which brought major impact.

Ishant 2.0 now has more than 100 wickets after his county stint which by no way is a career-changing move.

Another cricketer is making an impact named Ollie Robinson. He had stints for clubs like Yorkshire and Hampshire. But after signing for Sussex under Gillespie his career changed. For the past 3 seasons, he has had 50 more wickets and making crucial contributions with the bat. Although he does not have pace his ability to swing and stay consistent has helped him.

Now Gillespie has left Sussex and is working with Adelaide. Wes Agar is an excellent player for him to fine-tune with express pace. Wes Agar has already shown his form in the BBL, if he continues to perform in Sheffield he has a good future.
