India vs Australia : Changes to be made ahead of 2022 World Cup.

Australian women have dominated the Indian side in the 1st ODI. The hosts had in the initial part of the innings were a bit scratchy by giving away many extras but caught up at the end of the innings. Such was not the case with the Indian team who did not look settled.

Middle-order woes.

The opening doesn't look like a problem now with the likes of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhan. But what the duo needs to do is to settle down for 1st 10 overs and then look to progress. Shafali needs to do this to find consistency and get a good score.

When it comes to middle-order this has been the concern for quite a time now leading into the World Cup in 2022. Gone are those days where 200 would look to be a good score in women's cricket. This was seen in the SA touring India in March itself. A target of more than 250 is what looks competent for heavyweights like Australia, England, and SA.

Indian middle-order plays out the most number of dot balls ranging from 15 to 40th over. Rotation of strike has been a major concern with just 4 players outside the 30 yards still not able to rotate strike. 

Mithali Raj batting position.

She needs to bat at number 3 to get the desired firepower in the end for Harman and Ghosh. Mithali Raj is a slow starter with a strike rate of around 70. So pushing Mithali a bit higher would mean she can rotate the strike and make others play the natural game. She has scored the highest number of the 50s but has not been able to convert it to a high score if we look at the stats where she comes at number 4. 

If the above situation is sorted then it will give the power hitters the luxury to fire in the death and score more than 250

Australia's WBBL producing quality players.

India too needs to find a way in conducting women's IPL to find depth. Australians play cricket all-round ranging from domestic to franchise and for their national side all around the year. In contrast, Indians only play limited Int cricket with few domestic matches. Slowly Indians too are taking part in the franchise cricket outside but with their own women's IPL they can produce domestic talents which are where teams like Australia and England stand out.
