What is ODI cricket?

After reading this article, you will be able to watch an ODI cricket match with your friend. Cricket has 3 main formats- Test, ODI and T20.

ODI cricket is abbreviation for One Day Cricket. Each team gets to bat once and maximum 50 overs can be bowled in each innings. The match has to be finished in one day. Teams play in colored jerseys.
Result: There is a possibility of 4 results: Win, Loss, Abandoned and Tie. A team wins when it has more runs than opposition team after both the innings take place. Consequently, opposition team loses the game. Sometimes a game is not able to be finished in one day due to rain or other reasons. In that case, the game is abandoned. If scores of both teams are equal after the match, then the game ends in a tie.

Team which bats gets to play 50 overs unless the opposition team takes 10 wickets before the innings ends. Chasing team or batting second team has to score more runs than the batting first teams. If it is able to do it in 50 overs before losing all 10 wickets, then it wins the game.

Sometimes, ODI matches are shortened because of rain. Due to rain, 50 overs can't be bowled in each innings. Hence, a shortened game is played. The number of overs can be reduced upto 20 depending upon the time left in the game. If minimum 20 overs can't be bowled in each innings, then the game is abandoned.
